The feature article “Small but Mighty” shares our experience of building a boutique legal practice around flexibility, strong client relationships and clear, responsive advice.

Written by Tiffany Cosby and published in the July 2026 edition of the Law Society of Western Australia’s Brief magazine, the article brings together the experiences of practitioners who have established firms designed around their clients, families and preferred ways of working.

Nikki Randall spoke about the autonomy that comes with operating a small practice—and the responsibility that accompanies it:

“There is freedom—you choose your clients, how you run your matters, the tech you use, and the overall tone of the firm. But that freedom comes with responsibility for everything.”

She also explained that operating a firm involves much more than undertaking legal work:

“You’re not just the lawyer, you’re also IT support, accounts department, compliance officer and marketing team.”

For Randall Lawyers, building a small specialist practice has allowed us to focus on responsiveness, clear advice and close working relationships with our clients. As Nikki observed in the article:

“We’ve found that our clients don’t necessarily care about firm size. They care about responsiveness and clarity.”
